Alber Orchard & Cider Mill on Bethel Church Road in Manchester has grown apples since 1890 and is now run by the Bossory family. It opened for the 2026 fall season on Thursday, September 10, and grows more than 100 apple varieties, many of them heirlooms you will not find in stores.
What days is it open?
Thursday and Friday from noon to 6 PM, Saturday from 9 AM to 6 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. It is closed Monday through Wednesday.
Can we watch the cider being pressed?
Often, yes. The mill usually presses on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday using its restored 1890 press, but the times can change, so call (734) 428-9310 to check before you go. The cider is pressed from apples picked off the tree, never dropped apples.
Can we pick our own apples?
The orchard's trees are very old and tall, so u-pick is limited to one designated area. You can also taste any of the apples available in the store.
Is there anything for the adults?
Freedom Winery shares the property and runs a tasting room with craft hard ciders and wine, Thursday through Sunday from noon to 6 PM.
