Schappacher Farms sits on a 50-acre farm on State Route 73 just outside downtown Wilmington and calls itself the home of the original pumpkin patch. It is open weekends from Saturday, September 19 through Saturday, October 31.
When is it open?
Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM to 6 PM.
Do we have to pay to get in?
No. There is no admission charge, wristband or ticket. Pumpkins are priced by the pound, and snacks and drinks mostly run $1 to $5.
What will the kids do?
Pick from six pumpkin patches, ride the Timmy Train, play in the corn box, slide down Hay Mountain, try the pumpkin slingshot and pet the animals. The snack barn has fresh apple cider, caramel apples and mini apple spice donuts.
Is it okay for a child who is sensitive to noise?
Yes. The farm says there are no loud noises or strobe lights and plenty of room to spread out, and wheelchairs can manage the grassy areas. Cash is preferred, and card payments carry a 4% fee.
